Who I am
As a licensed clinical psychologist, I come to my therapy work with both a research-based and theory-based approach ~ but more importantly, I come with compassion, warmth, humor and human-ness to the work I do with clients. I genuinely care about my clients. I want to really see you, perhaps in ways that not many others in your life do. I’ll sit with you in the messy feelings, accept you and all of your parts ~ and help you do the same. And I’ll celebrate your growth and joys right alongside you.
As we work together in therapy, we will incorporate trauma-informed and relational approaches to help you live your best life. Many times, I see your symptoms - whether that be anxiety, low mood, low self-worth, shame, negative self-talk, relationship problems, or more - as the result of what has happened to or around you in your life, not what is "wrong" with you. It almost always makes sense when we travel back together to help you understand the origins of your story. The ways we learned to cope, adapt, survive early in life are so needed - at the time - and yet as we grow into adults, those same adaptions may not serve us anymore. There is hope - together, we can help you to have compassion for your younger self, and find new ways of connecting and relating to yourself and others. You are not alone.
My training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Brainspotting help to process painful emotions, beliefs and experiences, even those about which you are not fully aware. I also weave in Internal Family Systems (IFS) into sessions to help you befriend parts of yourself in a compassionate way that helps to free feelings of shame, and helps you to find your true sense of Self.
BACKGROUND:
I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, with an Emphasis in Child and Family Psychology, at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. I have worked in therapeutic schools, and in private practice over the past 20 years, specializing in relational and trauma-focused interventions with adults over the past decade. I co-founded and co-managed a group practice in Fairfax, Virginia for 12 years until 2025, Bridges Therapy and Wellness Center before moving into solo private practice so that I can focus on the client work about which I am most passionate.
Looking forward to being a guide and partner in your healing journey!
